Keperra man accused of beating toddler remanded in custody

Posted August 20, 2008 16:39:00

A Brisbane Magistrate has remanded a 32-year-old Keperra man in custody after telling him he was lucky not to face a murder charge for the brutal bashing of a three-year-old boy.

Police allege the man - who cannot be named - swung the boy into the side of a caravan and broke his arm earlier this month.

The man is also accused of severely beating the toddler and grabbing him around the throat hard enough to leave bruises.

The man is accused of inflicting the injuries after he "snapped" while the boy was left in his care by his de facto partner, who is also the child's mother.

Magistrate James Gordon refused bail and remanded the man in custody to a further court appearance next month - telling him he was lucky he was not facing a manslaughter or murder charge.
