The Opposition Leader Colin Barnett looks set to announce tax cuts for families and small businesses during the election campaign.
Mr Barnett has accused the State Government of increasing stamp duty, payroll tax and land tax since it gained power in 2001 and says people who pay tax deserve some relief.
The Premier Alan Carpenter yesterday ruled out cuts in stamp duty saying any tax relief would go to those in most need, not homebuyers.
Mr Barnett says he will announce his tax policy later in the campaign.
"When Labor came into power in 2001, Western Australia was the second lowest taxing state, we are now the second highest," he said.
"This has been a high tax government. My broader view about taxation is that this is meant to be a boom state, people who pay tax, families and small businesses in particular, deserve some concessions."
