Nationals and Family First to share preferences

Posted August 20, 2008 13:40:00

The Nationals Leader Brendon Grylls says the lure of becoming deputy premier will not be a factor in his decision on whether to form a coalition with the Liberals after the election.

Mr Grylls has been campaigning with Family First today, after the parties agreed to share preferences in the Upper House.

He has again ruled out forming a Coalition with the Liberals after the election, unless the party reconsiders the Nationals' plan to secure a quarter of the state's mining and petroleum royalties for regional communities.

"We are a cross benches party seeking to win the balance of power," he said.

"If we get to the result of a hung parliament where the support of the minor parties is required to form government I will once again put our royalties for regions plan on the table and we'll see if Colin Barnett walks away from the meeting again.

"I will not be bought with higher positions of office and a higher salary if it means that regional WA misses out on a share of the infrastructure spend in WA."
