Former British glam rocker Gary Glitter fell ill during the night and has been taken to a clinic at Bangkok's airport for treatment, an immigration official says.

"He is sick. Thai Airways took him to see the doctor at Suvarnabhumi Airport," the immigration official said, speaking on condition of anonymity, told AFP.

An airline official confirmed that Glitter did not board his scheduled flight to London.

"He was not on board Thai Airways flight 910 to London, although he had a reservation," the official said.

Glitter, 64, left Vietnam late on Tuesday after serving a child molestation sentence.

He was arrested there in late 2005 and convicted the following year of committing obscene acts with two girls aged 11 and 12 in the southern resort town of Vung Tau.

The terms of Glitter's 2006 sentence called for his deportation upon his release.
