Debutant spinner Beau Casson says he is relieved to have broken through at Test level after taking his first wicket for Australia in the third Test against the West Indies.

The West Indians require 240 runs for victory on the final day in Barbados tomorrow with seven wickets in hand.

The home side battled defiantly to reach 3 for 235 at stumps on the fourth day in pursuit of 475 for an unlikely victory which would tie the series.

Casson took his first wicket for Australia when opener Xavier Marshall (85) edged to short leg and Phil Jaques grabbed a one-handed catch.

"I looked at the replay and I did carry on a little bit, but... I think it's just a bit of a monkey off the back, which makes you feel like you're actually contributing to the side," Casson said.

"It was pure emotion that was coming out of me when the wicket happened, it was such a fantastic catch."

Australia earlier declared its second innings closed at 5 for 439, with Simon Katich's resolute 157 leading the charge for the visitors.

The West Indies will resume on the final day with Dwayne Bravo unbeaten on 30, joined at the crease by Shivnarine Chanderpaul on 27 not out.
