Australian opener Phil Jaques says he is confident his side can push for a result in the final Test against the West Indies in Barbados.

Jaques scored 108 in a 223-run opening stand with Simon Katich, helping Australia to build an imposing 365-run second-innings lead at stumps on day three.

Katich is unbeaten at the crease on 148, with the team at 3 for 330 at the close.

Jaques says the remaining batsmen have the chance to set an unassailable platform for the bowlers to finish the match off.

"I think there's definitely an opportunity with two days remaining to get a result and it will just depend on how long Ricky wants to go for," he said.

"Then we've got to get to the business of bowling them out."

Jaques struggled early on in the Caribbean tour, and he says the century was the perfect way to put his form troubles behind him.

"I suppose just having a little look at them, getting to know their bowlers, getting to know the conditions and feeling my way into the series a little bit," he said.

"I feel I've got better as the series has gone on and it's just good to score some runs today."
