Early Morning Programming for Younger Children

The ABC Advisory Council recommends that the ABC continue to schedule programs for a younger children's audience - small children between 3-8 years - in the early morning timeslot.
Foreign Correspondent Exhibition - Travellers Tales
R2/3/04 - Director of News and Current Affairs
The ABC Advisory Council commends the Foreign Correspondent Exhibition currently travelling around Australia. Council has received positive and enthusiastic feedback. The exhibition is excellently presented and projects the image of the ABC. Council recommends that this exhibition form the basis of a series of programs along the lines of "Travellers Tales" which gives the story behind the stories.
Computer Program - Practical and Everyday Applications in the Digital Age
R3/3/04 - Director of Television and Director of Radio
The Advisory Council recommends that the ABC look to producing a series on computers, which would examine and explain the practical applications of computers and software to seniors and beginners. Such a series could also include applications about the applications of other existing technologies (such as broadband, DVD's, SMS, MP3s, web-cams and set top boxes. In addition there could also be segments that focus on new technologies (such as digital radio), reviews of new products and their applications.
Artists and their View of the World
R4/3/04 - Director of Television and Director of Radio
The Advisory Council recommends the ABC produce a series of programs centred on artists, their view of the world and how they look at specific issues giving another eye or perspective to topics.
Public Institutions and the People Behind Them
R5/3/04 - Director of Television and Director of Radio
Following on from its recommendation of December 2003 regarding looking behind the scenes of public institutions Council recommends that the ABC again look at a series on Great Institutions. While recognising that there may be some difficulties, Council believes programs giving a behind-the-scenes look at the people and traditions of significant institutions and organisations would be well received. Some examples could be galleries, libraries, Houses of Parliament. United Nations, Red Cross, CWA, the Masons, Flying Doctor Service, Hells Angels.
Employment Skills and the Changing Nature of Work
R6/3/04 - Director of Television and Director of Radio
The Advisory Council recommends that the ABC look to producing a series on changing employment skills and the changing nature of work, in particularly trades. Council believes there is room for a program which not only deals with professions but also expands into trades, skill shortages and changing employment skills.

Sound Recordists - Radio National
The Advisory Council commends the work of ABC Sound Recordists, particularly those in Radio National for the high quality work they produce.
Election Coverage
The Advisory Council commends the ABC's Online informative and in depth Election coverage, particularly Antony Green and Poll Vault.
Winged Sandals
The Advisory Council commends ABC New Media for the development of the Winged Sandals site.
Digital Arts Site
The Advisory Council notes the interesting digital arts displays and exhibitions on ABC Online.
Catalyst - Childrens Hospital
The Advisory Council commends Catalyst Children's Hospital, a moving, brave and ethical program - good tough television. The Council also commends the Catalyst program Body Hits - simple but interesting research and reporting on the human body.
Welcome to Woomera
The Advisory Council commends this documentary, a positive reflection on a town struggling to survive.
ABC Switchboard Staff
The Advisory Council commends ABC switchboard staff across Australia and expresses its appreciation for the information received in the switchboard reports.
Inventions from the Shed
The ABC Advisory Council commends Inventions from the Shed, a good program with brilliant opening titles and off centre humour.
Bush Telegraph
The ABC Advisory Council commends Bush Telegraph. It has come of age; it is working well and the presenter is able to deal with a wide range of topics. It is not removed from the city and gives a broad comprehensive overview of regional and remote issues.
Media Report
The ABC Advisory Council commends the Media Report. It is informative and interesting with an appreciation of the national and international range of issue discussed. Mick O'Regan is an excellent presenter
Rewind - (5 Minute Segments)
The Advisory Council noted with pleasure the initiative of using 5 -minute segments of Rewind and congratulates the ABC on this. Council also commended Rewind and The Way we Were, which make excellent use of the ABC Archive. Council would like to see these concepts which present history in an innovative way continued
HACK
The ABC Advisory Council commends HACK for its coverage of issues covered in the run up to the election in a most interesting way, making fascinating listening. Host Steve Cannane presents good current affairs for young people.
At the Movies Online
Council commends the At The Movies Online site which is a wonderful site with good presentation of information.
Netball Coverage
The ABC Advisory Council commends the ABC for its coverage of netball. For covering sport, which is not in the mainstream, making a welcome relief from male, dominated sports. Netball coverage is well presented with good commentary about teams. This is a good example of quality broadcasting of sport that the ABC has become renowned for.
Wil and Adam - Triple j
The Advisory Council commends Wil and Adam on their final Triple J shows and for making getting up in the morning so enjoyable.
Something in the Air
The Advisory Council commends the daytime screening of repeats of Something in the Air.
Cricket in the 70's and 80's
The ABC commends this interesting and entertaining series with good use of archival footage, putting a new perspective on old issues.
ABC Cricket Coverage in India
The Advisory Council commends the ABC's coverage of the Australian Cricket Tour of India. The ABC team did a wonderful job under a lot of pressure with such poor technical facilities.
Chaser Decides
The ABC Advisory Council commends The Chaser Decides. The series was incisive, clever, courageous current and up do date with the delivery of information through comedy and satire. The Council also notes the innovative use of technology with the ticker tape.
Double the Fist
The ABC Advisory Council commends Double the Fist. Fabulous and congratulations for winning an AFI Award. Innovative, parody and good use of special effects and graphics.
