The Sleeping Book Two years ago Melbourne ophthalmologist Harry Lew began a mission to revive a story that began in a Polish town almost 70 years ago: a true story so terrible that when published in 1948 few could bear to read it. It was a meticulous account of Bialystock, its 60 000 Jewish residents, and their systematic destruction by the Nazis. The book was written by a survivor, Rafael Rajzner who migrated to Melbourne after WW2. But it was written in Yiddish. Losing The Plots Rookwood Necropolis, literally the City of the Dead, lies in outer Sydney. Since 1867 around 800 000 thousand souls have been laid to rest in its park-like grounds.
