One of the powerful global forces of our time is communication. The movement towards an interconnected global culture has been called a 'revolution' no less. Alongside finance and tourism, the communication industry looms as a symbol of progress and hope in the post-industrial landscape.

At first considered technical rather than academic, media and communication studies have multiplied in the tertiary sector. Courses are now found in a range of institutions - from the community college to the 'sandstone' university.

Beginning with the premise that communication is fundamental to the human condition, Lines of Communication surveys the broad-scale theories and practices which have come to define the burgeoning discipline.

The series provides thirteen perspectives of the main arms of inquiry - from organisational communication, to the cultural studies underpinning media production and consumption.

Lines of Communication acknowledges the force of media and communication studies, whilst casting a critical eye over their development and reach.

The series provides a much needed sustained exploration which will be of use to students across the board, and will introduce and interpret important concepts of our times for the general listener.
