IN PERFORMANCE: Sydney Symphony – 8.00pm
The Sydney Symphony’s songbird Diana Doherty performs Mozart’s sunny and graceful Oboe Concerto in tonight’s direct broadcast from the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall.
Lothar Zagrosek conducts the orchestra in an ‘all-C-major’ program which also includes Beethoven’s Symphony No.1, built along Classical lines, but with some typically anarchic twists – listen for how long the opening takes to settle into C major. Schubert’s Symphony No 6 (Little) left Vienna amazed when it was performed first the first time only after the composer’s death.
